In 2018, some educators, along with several unschooling families, began experimenting with the Sudbury model of education in Hong Kong. During regular unschooling family gatherings, they incorporated the School Meeting and the Judicial Committee, while still maintaining the format of a family gathering. Over time, parents gradually stepped back, and the operation was officially taken over by several staff members and students.

Hong Kong Sudbury provides a safe and nurturing environment for students aged 6 to 18 to freely explore, self direct their learning, and follow their passions at their own pace. They choose activities that interest them and learn knowledge, skills, and interpersonal relationships from these experiences. The role of the staff, environment, and facilities in the school is to support and assist students. We provide them with the time and space to develop their learning abilities, live out their potentials, make decisions and take responsibility for themselves.
